Boycott List
The origins of the word boycott comes from Ireland's history of fighting empire oppression. During one of Ireland's previous plantations where their land was taken over by foreigners was what was known as the Land War in the late1800's. A British Captain Charles Boycott was the land agent of an absentee landlord called Lord Erne in County Mayo, Ireland. After a bad harvest Lord Erne thought to keep the people sweet he would give them 10% reduction in rent the people demanded 25% as they were starving. Lord Erne refused this, telling Captain Charles Boycott to evict the tenants.
A member of the Irish Land League known as Charles Stewart Parnell decided to deal with landlords and land agents through a peaceful form of revolt.
Parnell asked those in the local community to do no business with the landlord. It worked a treat and the world's media picked up on it and it went viral! The people were victorious!
Here you will find a list of companies to boycott if you so wish and the reasons we feel why you should.
